Should Public Schools have to Compete with Private Schools
Should public schools have to compete with private schools such as Brother Rice, DCD, St. Marys to name a few in athletics. All of the private school powerhouses "recruit" with scholarships and much more things to bring talented athletes to their schools and away from their "home" school. So, why should public schools have to compete with private schools in sports when private schools have the dominant advantage. This should be changed private schools should have to compete with private schools and public schools should continue to compete with public schools. Then, afterwards public school should get cracked down on recruiting. Harrison high school is known to offer its football student athletes apartments so that they can pass the residency requirement. Things like this need to stop so we have a "purer" more fair game.

I do not think that public schools should have to play against private schools you said it best when you said that private schools have a dominant advantage over public schools because of there "recruiting" most public schools except the ones like harrison have almost no change of winning state championships. also they must stop offering kids apartments because it is basically cheating.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the both of you guys on this one, Alex and Gjon. Public schools should not have to play private schools in the playoffs or regular season for that matter. Private schools are given an unfair advantage because they are allowed to recruit players and offer incentives for playing at their school. Public schools are not allowed to do this but there are still some schools that make deals with their players under the table. I believe that there can be three solutions to this problem. The first solution is to just not allow recruiting in all of highschool, public or private. The second is to separate public and private schools into different divisions and playoff brackets. The last solution is to let the public and private schools schedule games with eachother on their own before the season starts if they want to play a certain team.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with any of you I think those ideas are 'soft'. Both public and private schools should play together this way recruiters are seeing the best vs. the best from both schools. Why would you split the competition between students paying to go to school and students not paying? College is the next step for a high school athlete so college recruiters should always be able to see the best athletes from any team versus the best athletes of any other team in their state. And if private and public schools are both offering "incentives" then what is the problem? Never will high school football make a change because high school students complain that a team is too tough.
