Teenage drug use

Teenagers these days are into various harmful drugs. Being a teenager in highschool I've realized that drugs are becoming more prevalent in the lives of highschool students. There have even been cases in our general area of kids harming themselves or someone else from the influences of drug use. Do you see drug use and alcohol drinking as a problem in our society? What can we do to minimize these bad habits of our generation so that we can get the full potential out of every young soul we have?

Does low income equal no college?

Studies have shown that students from the bottom 50 percent of the income distribution comprise just 14 percent of the undergraduate population at the United States’ most competitive universities. Do you believe that high-achieving low income students are being unfairly excluded from high quality universities because it is assumed that they cannot afford the tuition? Please explain why you agree or disagree with this statement.

BULLYING IN SPORTS

Recently in the news there has been a huge story about a football player bullying another player on the team and verbally threatening him and calling him names and talking about family. Do you think that situations like this and other hazing should be accepted in the nfl and other professional sports leagues and who do you think should step up to deal with these problems when they get out of hand?

Women in Male Sports?

Should women be able to participate in male sports such as the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB? Would extremely talented women even be able to compete well against men in any sport? Do you think that the excitement and entertainment in sports would rise or decay for sports that men have dominated in since their making?

Work or University

Is vocational training such as mechanical, plumbing, heating and cooling and etc. "Blue Collar Jobs" training be valued and encouraged just as much a four year university is encouraged. Coming from a high end high school and social staus area we have come too accept that after high school four year university's are the norm. Yet, many Americans chose a more hands on approach and go towards a more blue collar workforce career placement. Why isnt this encouraged and supported as much as a univeristy and should it?

Is Advertising taking over America?

In today's day-in-age, advertising seems to be every you look. It is nearly impossible to get away from. You are even starting to see more and more advertisement in T.V shows and movies. With this in mind, do you think that advertisement is starting to get out of control? If not, how or why do you think the commercials are effectively reaching audiences to buy their products?

Should Public Schools have to Compete with Private Schools

Should public schools have to compete with private schools such as Brother Rice, DCD, St. Marys to name a few in athletics. All of the private school powerhouses "recruit" with scholarships and much more things to bring talented athletes to their schools and away from their "home" school. So, why should public schools have to compete with private schools in sports when private schools have the dominant advantage. This should be changed private schools should have to compete with private schools and public schools should continue to compete with public schools. Then, afterwards public school should get cracked down on recruiting. Harrison high school is known to offer its football student athletes apartments so that they can pass the residency requirement. Things like this need to stop so we have a "purer" more fair game.

Obamacare

If a young adult in not insured under their parents insurance at the age of 25. Then that young person is required to pay $10 a day, $30 a month, and $3600 a year. Why is this necessary for a college student, or similarily aged American, who barely ever goes to the doctor. Can you imagine that this group of people can even afford the extra strain on their financial situation.(I know I cant)

Gender Roles in Society

Do you think that gender roles in society are changing from traditional ways? Also, how have things changed from 60 years ago to the present?

NFL SAFETY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdhS-t1F83o No longer can running backs protect themselves and "lay the hits". Why does the nfl do this because in the end arent they supposed to make money. I cant imagine lowering the "excitement" of football can help promote and make money for the league or the sport. But, the adverse effects of this is we will see more and more soft tissue injuries such as knees, shoulders and elbows. Because more and more players will be "hitting" low and less "brain injury" and more physical injury. How will the league respond to this.

Female vs. Male Pay

For the duration of our Nation’s history males have always been paid higher than females even for having the same position in the work field. Do you think that this is fair for girls? What if this situation was vice-versa, how would you feel? And what would you try to do to become the dominant money getter?
