Work or University

Is vocational training such as mechanical, plumbing, heating and cooling and etc. "Blue Collar Jobs" training be valued and encouraged just as much a four year university is encouraged. Coming from a high end high school and social staus area we have come too accept that after high school four year university's are the norm. Yet, many Americans chose a more hands on approach and go towards a more blue collar workforce career placement. Why isnt this encouraged and supported as much as a univeristy and should it?

  1. "Blue Collar Jobs" should not be encouraged and valued equally with a four year university education because education is most important at the earliest stage possible in a humans life. Working is for putting good use to all the education we have took in over our lives. When you abandon education for a job you are essentially limiting yourself to the benefits that you have with a full education like making the best decisions financially so that we are wealthy when it is time to retire.

  2. i think the reason that blue collar work is not encouraged like 4 year university is beacause people need to get an education so that society as a whole can be educated and if people are not getting educations they are limiting them selves so that if the bue collar job they are doing does not fall through then they do not have a back up plan like someone with a degree would have

  3. I agree with Ricardo and Gjon. Blue collar jobs will always be important jobs, but going to college and finishing your education is extremely important also. We will always have a demand for blue collar jobs, but we need people to run companies, manage employees, invest in stocks, run for a government position, etc. and in order for them to do this they must have a college degree. Even if you get a degree and don't end up getting a good job (Which is not likely), you can still fall back on a job like a plumber or trash man. If you do not get your degree in the first place, then you will not even have a chance at gaining a positions such as manager, CEO, stock broker, owner, and many other j=high profile jobs.
